July 6, 2008 - Rev. Greg McKinnon, Rev. Allison Posell

OUTLINE

Scripture: Jonah 4:1-10
Additional scriptures: Psalm 145: 8-9, Matt.18:23-25, Ezekiel 16:49, Proverbs 6:16-19

I. Jonah did not have God’s compassion – vs. 1-4

II. Jonah did not have God’s priorities – vs. 5-9

III. Jonah did not have God’s perspective – vs. 10

Discussion Questions:

1. God used Jonah, a reluctant prophet, to deliver a message to surprisingly sensitive pagans. Where does God want to use you, in your reluctance, to minister to an individual or group of people? What’s keeping you from responding to God’s call?

2. In your reluctance, describe how you are more worried about the immediate effects this will have on your life as opposed to the eternal effects it might have on the lives of others.

3. Describe a time in your life when you received and experienced God’s tremendous forgiveness. Did you deserve it? Have you remained faithful to avoiding that same behavior? Now, remember someone with whom you have an unsettled account. What is keeping you from offering forgiveness to them?
